Foundation Mares

These are the two who started all the trouble: Leira (left)  and Grey Girl by Ocean Seames (Banba Chestnut x Doon Paddy). They joined us at the age of five months in autumn 1975.

They were considered to be Sabine’s ponies who herself was only five years old at that time. Daddy Franz Josef kept Westfalian warmbloods but the Irish ponies took posession of him and in 1983 the first Connemara foal was born. Ronja a daughter of Leira’s by Diamonds Dandy (Glenlo Biddy  x Carna Dun).In 1984 the last warmblood left our place and three more Connemaras were born.

They were named Rocky  out of the bay mare Liane (Lima x Little Lord), Robinson (full brother to Ronja) and Rayah out of Grey Girl. Sire of all those three was again Diamonds Dandy.

Robin as we affectionally call him and Rayah -as well as Leira are still with us today

Grey Girl  had to be put down because of melanomas in December 2000 and is dearly missed. Especially by Sabine who considers her to be her fullfilled pony dream.

This elderly gentleman is Ocean Seames at the age of 28 in autumn 1999. „Sammy“ was brought to the Netherlands in utero in 1970. Later on he was sold to Germany and passed his stallion inspections. Due to several reasons he does not have many offspring in Germany which can be truely considered as a loss to German breeders.

His most reproductive daughter was Teja at the Werratal stud. He also is the sire of our foundation mares Leira and Grey Girl. Thes,

e three mares carried on what he embodied: Stamina and performance potential. It was a great pleasure to meet him so sound and regal at this age.

A fairly new picture of Leira and Antonia (at rear) taken in january 2002. One should keep in mind that. Leira is 27 years old at this picture. They are practicing how to produce a pony in a lead class and Leira shows Antonia how this works .....
